Spring Cleaning

Now is the time of year that many of us begin spring cleaning.  You may have a long list of tasks you would like to accomplish, but the best strategy is to focus on one item on the list first, before trying to tackle another.  Whether it is your closet, garage, pantry, laundry room, entry way or any other “drop zone” in your home, Austin-Morgan Closets can help you achieve a result that is customized for your home and your family.  When you have the organization tools designed with your type of habits in mind, you will be able to maintain the neat, orderly appearance you are striving for.

Step 1:  In trying to organize those messy, cluttered spaces in our homes is eliciting the help of all family members.  Each family member can then go through their belongings and decide if they should keep, donate or trash items.  Decisions can be quickly made without having to chase down each family member to get their input.  You will be surprised how quickly the process goes when the entire family is there to help.

Step 2:  Inventory the items that you need to keep and store

When everything has a place and there is a place for everything; organization is easy. Transform how your family functions daily with a custom organization solution.  Fall in love with your home again.

Here are some before and after photos of a client’s under the stairs closet. As you can see this was the family’s “drop zone.” As the only closet when you entered the front door of this beautiful home, it was a catch-all for a variety of items like brooms, mops, shoes, backpacks, in addition to being a media equipment and wiring closet. As you can see there were attempts to include cabinets, baskets, bins, and shoe organizers. None of these efforts worked because they are not custom designed organization solutions. We worked closely with our client to design a closet system that would suit the family’s needs perfectly. By providing shoe shelving at the entrance of this closet, the family can now quickly put away and retrieve their shoes without having to enter the closet. We were also able to properly conceal all the wiring and media components so that everything is safely stored, but hidden. A cabinet was given a mesh door insert so that there was proper ventilation for the equipment stored inside it. A mop and broom closet was created so that these items would be concealed behind a door while also providing storage for cleaning products. Large open shelving was installed towards the back of the closet to store additional bins, baskets and larger items. Finally, hooks were added on the back wall for backpacks, gym bags and jackets.

This was a spring cleaning project that demonstrates how beneficial it can be to work with a custom closet professional. There is not a one size fits all approach to our home organization systems. Don’t let those spring cleaning projects overwhelm you. We are here to help and will design a closet system that will make organization easy.
